A major beef recall is underway after testing revealed potentially deadly bacteria in products shipped to three western states.
CS Beef Packers, LLC, based in Idaho, has recalled approximately 22,912 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O145, according to an announcement from the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Thursday (February 12).
The affected products were produced on January 14, 2026, and shipped to distributors in California, Idaho, and Oregon for further distribution to food service locations. The recall includes three specific products: Beef Coarse Ground, Fire River Farms Classic Beef Fine Ground 73L, and Fire River Farms Classic Beef Fine Ground 81L, all packaged in 10-pound chubs.
The contaminated products can be identified by their use/freeze by date of February 4, 2026, and timestamps between 7:03 and 8:32. They also bear the establishment number "EST. 630" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the case exterior and printed directly on the clear packaging.
The dangerous bacteria was discovered during routine FSIS testing at a customer facility. No illnesses connected to the recalled products have been reported as of Thursday morning.
E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain that can cause illness within two to eight days after exposure. Most people develop bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, with symptoms typically resolving within a week. However, some cases can progress to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a potentially fatal kidney disease that is most dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
Health officials are concerned that some of the affected products may still be in food service freezers. "Foodservice locations are urged not to serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the FSIS stated in their release.
