The New York Jets have placed a franchise tag on running back Breece Hall, giving him a one-year deal with the intention to continue working on a new contract, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday (March 3).
"The #Jets are franchise tagging RB Breece Hall, per The Insiders, giving him a one-year deal. They’ll keep working on a contract," Rapoport wrote on his X account before later updating that "the franchise tag is now officially in."
Hall, 24, has long been the subject of trade rumors amid the Jets' struggles, telling reporters that he didn't want to be dealt on October 10 prior to the team's Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos in London and then sharing a cryptic post on the day of the game.
"They want me to lay down but I got sum to stand for… 🚶🏾♂️➡️#Free20," Hall wrote on his Instagram account.
Hall was selected by the Jets at No. 36 overall in the second-round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has led the team, in rushing yards every year since his rookie season, which includes 410 yards on 88 carries (4.7 yards per carry) through his first six games of the 2025 season. The former Iowa State standout recorded 1,065 yards and four touchdowns on 243 rushing attempts (4.4 yards per carry) last season.
