Gasoline and diesel prices reached their highest national averages ever recorded on an Election Day, with regular gasoline at $4.12 per gallon and diesel at $6.28 per gallon. The record prices come as Americans across the country head to the polls on Tuesday (November 3), with the cost of living, including fuel, playing a major role in voter turnout.

Regional data from AAA shows the impact is widespread. In the Midwest, the average price for regular gasoline exceeded $4 for the first time immediately before an Election Day, with Wisconsin drivers paying an average of $4.19 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, announced on X that it was a "new election day record: the highest ever national average for gasoline and diesel prices ever on election day." The national average for regular gasoline is up more than 30 cents compared to the previous record set in 2022.
