The LSU women's basketball team made history on Thursday (November 5) with a commanding 131-22 victory over Texas Southern, setting a new record for the largest margin of victory between two Division I teams. The game took place at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and saw LSU dominate with a 109-point win, surpassing the previous record set by Baylor in 2016. According to ESPN, LSU's head coach Kim Mulkey was also at the helm of the Baylor team that held the previous record.

LSU's impressive performance included a 50-0 run during the second and third quarters, with a 40-0 shutout in the second quarter alone. Freshman Anna Minaeva led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Mikaylah Williams added 20 points. Seven players scored in double figures, showcasing the depth of the team. Yahoo Sports reported that LSU's defense forced Texas Southern into 38 turnovers, leading to a 55-0 advantage in points off turnovers.

The game also featured a special moment for former LSU star Angel Reese, who was honored during halftime. Reese, who helped LSU win their first national championship in 2022, was recognized for her achievements, including being named the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.

LSU's victory was not only a team effort but also a strategic use of the bench by Coach Mulkey. Ten players contributed to the scoring, with Jada Williams scoring 18 points and providing seven assists. The LSU Reveille noted that LSU's aggressive play continued throughout the game, allowing only nine points from Texas Southern in the second half.

The Tigers will continue their season with a game against McNeese on Tuesday (November 10) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, as they prepare for more challenging matchups later in the season.
